LUVIS

Here we describe our product “LUVIS” – the light box for the Pelli Robson boards. In these 3 steps you create standardized test conditions with LUVIS and the Pelli Robson panels:

  • Adhesive magnetic strip to the back of the board
  • Insert panel into the LUVIS
  • Switch on LUVIS and check contrast vision without errors

In the design, the research team followed the specifications of DIN EN ISO 8596 – it describes the conditions under which visual acuity and contrast vision tests must be performed.

Important: Homogeneous lighting as required by EN ISO 8596 cannot be achieved with conventional room lighting!

The two fluorescent tubes illuminate the box homogeneously. This allows the light to fall on the panel in such a way that no reflections occur. In addition, the housing provides protection from incident light. Anyone who has ever tried to illuminate a contrast panel with conventional lighting knows these difficulties. The result then depends on factors for which one is responsible as a professional. With LUVIS you are rid of these risks once and for all!

The importance of ISO 8596

EN ISO 8596 specifies an ambient brightness (luminance between optotypes) of between 80 and 320 cd/m2 for visual acuity testing at high contrast to the visual signs. This range is also recommended for testing photopic contrast vision. The permissible tolerance is specified as ±25 %.

With LUVIS you achieve a tolerance of only ±9 % over the entire sheet! This means that a letter at the top left will appear a maximum of 18% lighter or darker than a letter at the bottom right.
